CAF CUP: A NEW CHALLENGE FOR AL AHLY

Al Ahly 2012 Acl 300x168 1

On Saturday, the first day of the group stage of the Confederation Cup will feature two matches. Al Ahly, the Egyptian club that has won the Champions League twice in the last two seasons, will start their campaign in the Confederation Cup against Zambian side Nkana.

After being eliminated from the Champions League by Libya’s Al Ahli Benghazi and losing their continental title, Al Ahly is undergoing a transitional phase. Key players are retiring, and their coach, Mohamed Youssef, has been replaced, marking the beginning of a new era for the club.

Fathi Mabrouk, who was appointed as the new head coach of Al Ahly in early May, faces the challenge of leading the club to win the only continental trophy missing from their impressive list of achievements. Despite being the most successful club in Africa, Al Ahly has never won the Confederation Cup.

Summary:

  • Two matches will be played on Saturday for the first day of the Confederation Cup group stage.
  • Al Ahly will face Zambian club Nkana in their first match of the competition.
  • After being eliminated from the Champions League and experiencing changes in their coaching staff and squad, Al Ahly is entering a new phase.
  • Fathi Mabrouk, the newly appointed coach of Al Ahly, aims to guide the club to win the Confederation Cup, a title they have never won despite their success in other competitions.
