CAF considers Rabat as venue for 2026/27 Champions League and Confederation Cup preliminary draw
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is weighing plans to stage the draw for the preliminary round fixtures of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup in Rabat, with the event expected to take place before 10 August.
The proposed ceremony could be held alongside activities linked to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will run in Morocco from 26 July to 16 August, further underlining the country’s growing role as a central hub for continental football administration during the summer calendar.
According to discussions within CAF, the draw may be integrated into the WAFCON schedule in Morocco, where officials, club representatives and stakeholders are already expected to be present.
Rabat has emerged as the leading candidate city, given its recent use as a key venue for major CAF competitions and events.
If confirmed, the move would continue a recent trend of CAF centralising major draws and ceremonies in host nations of flagship tournaments, particularly Morocco, which has hosted several high-profile competitions and finals in recent years under the auspices of the Confederation of African Football.
The 2026/27 club competition season is expected to follow a tightly packed continental calendar, with early qualifying rounds setting the stage for both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup group stages later in the year.
While final confirmation is still pending, the alignment of the draw with WAFCON activities highlights CAF’s intention to maximise visibility and logistical efficiency by clustering key events within the same period and location.
