CAF Confederation Cup: Wydad AC key players recover from injury ahead of Olympique Safi quarter-final clash

Wydad Athletic Club is set to receive a major boost ahead of its upcoming continental encounter after recovering the services of several key players before the first leg of the quarter finals of the CAF Confederation Cup against Olympique Safi scheduled for next Sunday.

Among the returning players is defender Ayoub Mufid, who had been sidelined after suffering an injury during Wydad’s clash with AS FAR in the postponed ninth round of the Moroccan professional league.

The injury forced him to miss the team’s most recent league fixture against Union Touarga. However, the club’s medical staff has now cleared the player to resume training and rejoin the squad for the important continental match.

Mufid will not be the only reinforcement available to Wydad’s coaching staff.

Midfielder Abdelghafour Lamirat is also set to return after serving a suspension that ruled him out of the previous match against Union Touarga. Lamirat had been suspended after receiving his fourth yellow card of the season during the intense Clasico encounter with AS FAR.

That memorable match saw Wydad produce one of the most dramatic comebacks of the season. The Casablanca side overturned a 3–1 deficit to secure a thrilling 4–3 victory, a result that provided the team with a significant morale boost ahead of their upcoming continental challenge.

Wydad’s technical staff is hoping the return of both Mufid and Lamirat will strengthen the squad’s options and improve the team’s competitiveness, particularly with the high stakes surrounding the quarter-final clash against Olympique Safi in the Confederation Cup.
