CAF Cup: Olympique de Ngor Overturn First-Leg Deficit to Eliminate Unisport
Olympique de Ngor are through to the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup, following a dramatic 3-1 victory over Unisport of Cameroon on Saturday in Dakar.
After losing 1-0 in the first leg in Cameroon, the Senegalese side needed a big performance—and delivered it right from kickoff.
Early Blitz
The match was practically decided within the first 15 minutes:
-
Mouhamed Sène struck twice in the opening 10 minutes, quickly erasing the deficit from the first leg.
-
Ismaila Niang added a third in the 15th minute, sending Ngor into a 3-0 lead and putting them firmly in control of the tie.
Despite a late consolation goal from Unisport in stoppage time, it wasn’t enough to spoil Ngor’s qualification on aggregate (3-2).
Reaction
Coach Cheikh Sidate Sarr admitted his surprise at the early goal rush:
“I expected a qualification with a one-goal margin followed by a penalty shootout, but not such a score with three goals in 15 minutes. We’ve struggled offensively in the league, so this was unexpected.”
He added:
“Our first objective was to get through the preliminaries. Now, we will focus on reaching the round of 16 after the draw.”
Olympique de Ngor now wait to discover their opponent in the second round, as they aim to continue their strong showing on the continental stage.
