CAF Cup: Late Goal Sends Renaissance de Berkane Crashing Out
Renaissance Sportive de Berkane (RSB) are out of the CAF Confederation Cup, falling victim to a dramatic late goal by Mali’s Onze Créateurs in the second leg of the preliminary round on Saturday at the Modibo Keita Stadium in Bamako.
A Painful Elimination
RSB came into the match with a slender 2-1 advantage from the first leg, but it wasn’t enough. In a tense second leg, the Moroccan side held firm for 90 minutes, but heartbreak struck in injury time, when Onze Créateurs scored the only goal of the game. With the aggregate score at 2-2, the Malian side advanced on away goals, having scored in Morocco.
Controversial Finish
Reports indicate there were seven minutes of stoppage time, and the decisive blow came just before the final whistle—a crushing end for Berkane, who thought they had done enough to qualify.
What’s Next?
Onze Créateurs will now face Sahel SC of Niger in the round of 32. Sahel SC previously eliminated MC Alger, another North African contender, from the competition.
The result marks a disappointing early exit for RSB, who had ambitions of making a deep run in the tournament.
