Zamalek captain Omar Gaber has acknowledged the difficulty of his side’s narrow victory over Algerian outfit CR Belouizdad in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup semi-final.

Speaking after the match, Gaber praised the intensity of the contest and the quality of the opposition, stressing that the Egyptian giants had anticipated a demanding night away from home.

“The match was not easy. We faced a strong opponent in front of their fans, and we aimed to come away with a positive result ahead of the return leg in Cairo next Friday. There is still a lot to play for,” he said.

The defender also underlined Zamalek’s pedigree on the continental stage, adding that the club’s ambitions remain firmly focused on silverware.

“Zamalek is a great club with a long history. It always plays to win championships and titles,” he noted.

Zamalek secured a crucial 1-0 win over CR Belouizdad at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, giving them a slender advantage heading into the second leg.

The return fixture will be staged at Cairo International Stadium next Friday, where the Egyptian side will look to complete the job and book a place in the final.
