CAF Champions League: USM Alger Clinch Second Straight Win to Top Group B
USM Alger continued their perfect start in the CAF Champions League group stage with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sudanese side El-Merreikh on Friday evening. The match, played at the Omar-Hamadi Stadium in Bologhine, marked the second matchday of Group B action.
After impressively defeating ES Sétif away from home in their group opener two weeks ago, the Algerian giants delivered another professional performance in front of their home supporters to solidify their position at the summit of the group.
The only goal of the match came in the 53rd minute, courtesy of a well-executed move. Midfielder Koudri provided a precise assist after a clever buildup by Seguer, setting up Youcef Belaili, who calmly slotted the ball past El-Merreikh goalkeeper Salim.
With this result, USMA move to six points from two matches, placing themselves in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages. The result also puts pressure on their domestic rivals MC El Eulma and ES Sétif, who will clash in an all-Algerian derby on Saturday to round off the second matchday.
USM Alger’s solid defensive display and efficient attack have made them early favourites in the group, as they aim to secure a historic run in Africa’s top club competition.
