Head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns Miguel Cardoso has dedicated his outfit CAF Champions League semifinals qualification to the club fans for their unwavering support.
The South African giants prevailed over Esperance to secure a place in the last four of the CAF’s elite club competition.
Sundowns defeated Esperance 1-0 in the first leg of the quarterfinals last week before holding the Tunisia giants to a 0-0 draw in the return fixture on Tuesday night, ensuring their qualification to the semifinals.
After the game, Cardoso dedicated his out qualification to the fans for their support throughout the competition.
“I think we approached the game tactically right to control the attacking potential at the same time. We must always hope for the chance to score a goal. That didn’t happen, we didn’t score, but we were strong enough not to suffer, we were strong enough to always play according to what the game demanded of us.
I also want to dedicate this victory to the Mamelodi Sundowns fans in South Africa, who bring us joy every day, and to the Motsepe family, because they believed in us. They believed in the players, in the material. Now let’s prepare for the future,” Cardoso stated.
Mamelodi Sundowns has now set a tie with giants Al Ahly in the semifinals. The first leg will be held in South Africa on April 19 before the return leg in Egypt.
