CAF Champions League: ES Sétif Determined to Host Matches at 8-May 1945 Stadium
Despite facing the threat of relocation, ES Sétif is firmly committed to hosting its CAF Champions League group stage matches at its home ground, the 8-May 1945 Stadium. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had raised several concerns during an inspection, putting the stadium’s approval at risk.
However, club president Hassan Hammar has vowed that necessary upgrades will be made in time to meet CAF standards. Speaking to national radio, Hammar reassured supporters:
“The local authorities of Sétif have commissioned a company to begin work next week, to meet the requirements made during the last CAF inspection visit. I want to reassure our supporters that we will play in Sétif and the reservations will be lifted.”
If the improvements are not completed, Sétif may be forced to play its matches in Algiers, a move the club is determined to avoid.
Placed in Group B, ES Sétif is set to face USM Alger, MC El Eulma, and Al-Merreikh of Sudan. The reigning champions will kick off their group stage campaign at home against domestic rivals USMA on Sunday, June 28.
