The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has taken a decision not allow free entry for the crucial Champions League semifinals clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly.
In a highly competitive clash slated for Saturday, the South Africa powerhouse will play host to the Egyptian giants in the first clash. Sundowns will travel to Egypt for the return fixture on April 25 to be staged in Cairo.
The Brazilians introduced a fan-friendly policy, offering free entry to fans in their previous Champions League clash against Esperance in the quarterfinals.
Sundowns were in line to offer free entry to their fans for the much-anticipated clash against Al Ahly this weekend.
However, the continental football governing body (CAF) has banned Mamelodi Sundowns from allowing fans to enter stadium freely following unrest in their previous game against Esperance.
As a result, the club had to sell tickets, but at a symbolic price of 20 rand – roughly one US dollar. Mamelodi still hopes for active fan support, hence they decided to make this compromise with CAF and the supporters.
Sundowns last won the Champions League in 2016 and are pushing to annex the covetous trophy this season.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly, who are the defending champions of the competitions are leaving no stone unturnned as they aim to defend the title.
