The first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League saw notable performances on Sunday, with Algerian teams delivering strong away results while other matches produced mixed outcomes.

In a standout performance, Egyptian side Pyramids FC took a commanding lead in their preliminary tie with a resounding 6-0 victory over JKU SCZ.

This dominant display leaves Pyramids FC on the brink of advancing to the next round.

South Africa’s Orlando Pirates were held to a goalless draw by Malagasy team Disciples FC, leaving their tie delicately poised for the return leg.

Algerian clubs enjoyed a successful day, with CR Belouizdad securing a 2-0 away win against AC Léopards. MC Alger mirrored this result with a 2-0 victory over Watanga FC, setting a positive tone for their respective second-leg fixtures.

Togolese side ASKO Kara managed to secure a 2-2 draw in Equatorial Guinea against Deportivo Mongomo.

This result is considered a valuable outcome given the challenging circumstances of the match.

However, Moroccan team AS FAR Rabat faced a setback with a 2-1 defeat to Remo Stars in Nigeria.

AS FAR will need to overturn this deficit in the return leg to advance further in the competition.

In another closely contested match, APR of Rwanda fell 1-0 to Azam FC of Tanzania.

The game was marked by a contentious penalty decision that proved decisive.

As the preliminary round continues, these results set the stage for crucial second-leg fixtures, where teams will seek to secure their place in the group stages of the CAF Champions League.
