CAF Champions League: Al Merreikh and Pyramids FC meet in Juba for crucial first leg

Al Merreikh of Sudan face Pyramids FC of Egypt at Juba Stadium in South Sudan on Friday, 16 October, in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. Kick-off is scheduled for 13:00 GMT.

Al Merreikh have been playing their home matches away from Sudan because of the situation in the country, and will aim to use the Juba fixture to gain an advantage before the return leg.

The Sudanese club progressed from the previous round by beating Heegan FC and are seeking to continue their run in the continental competition. A positive result against Pyramids FC would strengthen their position ahead of the second meeting.

Pyramids FC arrive in confident mood after a convincing 7-1 aggregate victory over Gor Mahia in the previous round. The Egyptian side will be looking for a favourable away result to put them in a strong position before the return match.

The tie represents an important early test for both clubs as they pursue their ambitions in this CAF Champions League campaign.
