Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet has moved clear at the top of the CAF Champions League scorers list after delivering another decisive performance for Al Ahly.
The Egyptian winger struck twice in his team’s 2–0 home win over Tanzania’s Young Africans in the third round of the group stage at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.
Trezeguet scored Al Ahly’s opener deep into first-half stoppage time, finding the net in the 45+3 minute to give the hosts a crucial breakthrough. He then returned after the break to add a second goal in the 75th minute, sealing a confident and important victory for the reigning African giants.
With this brace, the experienced winger has taken his tally to 4 goals in the group phase, having now scored in all three matches so far. Before his double against Young Africans, he had already found the net against Algeria’s JS Kabylie and Morocco’s AS FAR in the first two rounds, underlining his consistency and influence in Al Ahly’s attack.
The new total puts Trezeguet alone at the top of the Champions League scoring charts at this stage of the competition. He now sits ahead of fellow Egyptian forward Ahmed Atef “Qetta” of Pyramids, who has scored 3 goals.
