The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has received correspondence from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially canceling the highly anticipated match between Zamalek and Académie SOAR of Guinea.
The fixture was slated to take place at 9 PM today, Sunday, as part of the final round of group stage matches in the CAF Confederation Cup, but logistical challenges prevented the Guinean team from arriving in Cairo.
The decision comes after Académie SOAR encountered unforeseen travel difficulties, rendering them unable to reach Cairo in time for the scheduled fixture.
This notification from CAF underscores the importance of punctuality and adherence to competition regulations, ensuring fairness and integrity in continental football tournaments.
Responding to the cancellation, a senior source within Zamalek Football Club emphasized the club’s stance on the matter, stating unequivocally that there is no intention from their side to agree to a postponement.
Furthermore, the source asserted that CAF lacks the authority to compel Zamalek to delay the match without the club’s consent.
Highlighting the club’s commitment to upholding legal protocols, they affirmed that Zamalek would proceed with preparations for the match as planned.
If Académie SOAR fails to appear, Zamalek expects the match to be forfeited in their favor, as per CAF regulations.
