Egypt legend Ahmed Mido Hossam has called out the Confederation of African Football, saying their awards is full of corruption after compatriot Ahmed Mostafa Zizo missed out on the best Player in Africa prize.
Zizo, who plies his trade for Zamalek fell short to South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper for the best player award in Africa at the CAF awards held in Morocco on Monday night.
And Mido, who is not pleased with the awards has taken a swipe at CAF, saying the awards is a simple facade for years of corruption.
“Zizo deserved the title of the best player in the continent after he performed better than any other player, but unfortunately, compliments and relationships control the fate of awards within the African Union.” He wrote on X.
“What I like about the African Union is that it has been consistent in its principles for more than 40 years. It was headed by a man whose corruption was remembered and condemned by FIFA after 30 years, namely Issa Hayatou, and then came a man whose corruption was proven by the French judiciary, namely Ahmad Ahmad,” the former Tottenham star
“Patrice Motsepe, the current president, has turned African football into a testing ground and serves the interests of FIFA president Gianni Infantino and his men to benefit from Africa’s votes only in the FIFA elections without any plan to develop African football and under the auspices of former African stars,” he
