The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the African Club Association (ACA) have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the development of club football on the continent.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and ACA Chairman Hersi Said formalized the agreement in Cairo, Egypt, on March 11, 2025.
The MoU outlines strategic objectives aimed at improving financial support, fostering talent development, and ensuring fair play in African club football.
ACA praised Dr. Motsepe for increasing financial support for clubs, particularly the introduction of a USD 50,000 solidarity fee for teams participating in the preliminary stages of the CAF Interclub competitions.
This is the first time CAF has provided financial assistance at this stage of the tournament. Additionally, prize money for the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup increased by over 40%.
ACA, launched in November 2023 with CAF’s support, will establish its offices at the King Mohammed VI National Football Academy in Sale, Morocco.
The association aims to protect and develop professional football while ensuring players receive proper education and career opportunities.
The MoU also emphasizes fair play and the fight against racism, doping, match-fixing, and corruption in football.
CAF and ACA have committed to fostering strong national championships and international competitions to benefit players, clubs, leagues, and national associations.
A key resolution in the agreement ensures that all sports-related disputes will be handled within proper resolution structures.
The partnership between CAF and ACA is expected to mark a new era for club football in Africa, improving financial stability, talent development, and overall professionalism in the sport.
