Cádiz in advanced talks with Real Betis for Senegalese winger Souleymane Faye

Cádiz in advanced talks with Real Betis for Senegalese winger Souleymane Faye

Cádiz CF are in advanced negotiations with Real Betis over a potential move for Senegalese winger Souleymane Faye, following his standout season with Betis Deportivo.

The 22-year-old, who impressed in the 2024–25 campaign with the Betis reserve side in the Primera Federación, is seeking a new challenge after finding his path to the first team blocked by strong competition in the senior squad.

Despite his impressive numbers—nine goals and four assists in 36 appearances, 34 of them as a starter—Faye has yet to make the breakthrough into Betis’s top tier.

Faye, a product of the Foot Darou Salam academy in Senegal, is under contract with Real Betis until 2028.

However, the player is understood to be eager for a step forward in his career, having firmly established himself as one of the most consistent performers in the Spanish third tier this past season.

Sources close to the player indicate that a continued stay with the reserve squad is no longer being considered as a viable option for his development.

The winger has drawn attention from several clubs, particularly in Spain. Granada had expressed interest during the winter transfer window, but negotiations failed to materialise into a deal.

Now, Cádiz CF—currently competing in Spain’s Segunda División—have emerged as frontrunners to secure Faye’s services.

According to reports from the Spanish press, Cádiz are in talks with Betis over a loan move that would include an option to buy. Discussions are said to be progressing well, although a final agreement has not yet been reached.

The Andalusian club is actively seeking reinforcements for their attacking line, particularly on the flanks, and see Faye as a player with the potential to make an immediate impact.

For Faye, the prospect of joining Cádiz represents an opportunity to play regular first-team football at a higher competitive level.

His technical ability, pace, and eye for goal have made him a standout at the reserve level, and the player has made it clear that he is ready to embrace a new challenge in order to continue his progression.

While the terms of a potential deal are still under discussion, the structure of a loan with a purchase option suggests that both clubs are open to a solution that allows Faye to prove himself at a higher level before a permanent move is considered.

Betis, for their part, may view the move as a strategic decision to give the player the exposure and experience required to reach his full potential—particularly given the depth they already possess in wide positions in the first team.

As negotiations continue, all eyes will be on whether Cádiz can finalise terms and secure one of the most promising young wingers currently emerging from the Spanish lower divisions. For Souleymane Faye, the coming days could mark a key turning point in his professional career.
