Busoga United has announced the departure of Jessy Lukoki from his role as head coach. Lukoki’s resignation comes amid a challenging season for the Kingsmen, who find themselves teetering on the brink of relegation from the Uganda Premier League.
With just four wins in 23 matches, Busoga United has endured a tough campaign, drawing six times and suffering 13 defeats.
Currently occupying the 14th position in the league table with 18 points, the recent 3-0 loss to Maroons FC proved to be the final straw for Lukoki, prompting his decision to step down.
In his resignation statement, Lukoki cited several factors contributing to his departure, including strained working relationships within the technical team and a lack of motivation among the club staff.
He expressed his challenges in fulfilling his duties under such circumstances, emphasizing the need for a conducive working environment for effective coaching.
“To succeed him and guide the club for the rest of the season, Busoga United management has reportedly recalled its former coach Afan Ikoba,” the club announced.
Ikoba will be supported by Lukyamuzi, while Bright Dhaira will serve as the goalkeeping coach.
The change in leadership comes as Busoga United prepares to face Wakiso Giants in their upcoming fixture, marking the beginning of a new era for the club.
With relegation looming large, the management will be hoping that the coaching reshuffle will provide the necessary impetus for a turnaround in fortunes.
As the team navigates through this transitional period, football enthusiasts across Uganda eagerly await to see how the new coaching setup will fare and whether Busoga United can secure their status in the top flight of Ugandan football.
