Burundi national team set for friendly encounter against Algeria in Togo

The Burundi national football team is poised to embark on a journey to Togo on January 6, 2024, as confirmed by an official announcement from the Burundi Football Federation on its official platform. The purpose of this trip is to engage in a friendly match against Algeria, scheduled to take place on January 9.

While currently situated in Togo, the Fennecs, Algeria’s national team, are diligently preparing for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.

As part of their comprehensive training regimen spanning approximately ten days, Algeria has organized two friendly matches.

The initial encounter is slated against Togo on January 5, followed by the second friendly against Burundi on January 9.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Etienne Ndayiragije, the Burundi national team, affectionately known as the Hirondelles, has been undergoing intensive training sessions in readiness for these crucial friendlies.

The Burundi Football Federation recently communicated the official arrival date for the Hirondelles’ delegation in Lomé, confirming their presence in Togo on January 6.

It is worth noting that, while Burundi did not secure qualification for AFCON 2023, Algeria is poised to participate and strives to make a lasting impact in the tournament.

The Desert Warriors find themselves in Group D, alongside Burkina Faso, Mauritania, and Angola, and have set their sights on advancing as far as possible in the prestigious competition.
