Ashraf Loukman Tapsoba has taken African football by storm with his remarkable performances at the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, establishing himself as the tournament’s most electrifying young talent.
Born on March 30, 2010, in Ziniaré, Burkina Faso, the 15-year-old forward has dazzled spectators and scouts alike with his maturity, sharp finishing, and technical brilliance.
His rise has become the talk of the continent, with his name already being compared to some of Africa’s greatest football legends.
Tapsoba’s love for the game began in early childhood. Fuelled by his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo, he was rarely seen without a ball at his feet.
According to his father, Adama Tapsoba, Ashraf’s obsession with football was clear from the start.
He never missed a match featuring his idol and dreamed openly of reaching similar heights.
That passion took a more structured path when he joined ESIZ (Elite Sport International de Ziniaré), a football academy in his hometown.
Though still a child, Tapsoba regularly played above his age group and stood out for his physical power, ball control, and especially his aerial prowess.
By the age of eight, he was already dominating U12 tournaments, leaving spectators stunned by his instinctive understanding of the game.
In 2021, he made the move to Real du Faso, a club based in the capital Ouagadougou. It was a decision that would accelerate his trajectory.
Just three years later, national U17 coach Oscar Barro handed him his first call-up for the regional UFOA B U17 tournament held in Accra.
Tapsoba did not disappoint—scoring five goals, adding an assist, and playing a decisive role in guiding Burkina Faso to the title.
His performances earned him not only the golden boot but also the admiration of his country.
His biggest stage yet came at the 2025 U17 AFCON in Morocco, where the striker elevated his game to new heights.
Tapsoba scored four goals during the group stage, including an extraordinary lob from 60 metres against Cameroon that has already earned legendary status.
His ability to lead the line, create opportunities, and deliver under pressure made him a three-time Man of the Match during the opening rounds.
Burkina Faso’s 6-1 demolition of Zambia in the quarter-finals saw Tapsoba net a sensational hat-trick, taking his total to seven goals in the tournament.
That tally places him well ahead of competitors such as Côte d’Ivoire’s Alynho Haidara and highlights his growing dominance at youth level.
The victory also ensured Burkina Faso’s qualification for the 2025 U17 World Cup in Qatar—an historic moment for the country’s footballing journey.
As his reputation grows, so does the interest from Europe’s elite clubs. Rumours have linked Tapsoba with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, though his coach remains cautious about the sudden spotlight.
“At this age, money can do more harm than good. He needs time, protection, and the right environment to grow,” he said.
Back home, the young striker has already captured the hearts of the Burkinabe people. His name echoes through stadiums, with fans comparing him to continental icons like Didier Drogba,
Samuel Eto’o, and Karim Benzema. For many, Tapsoba is not just a footballer, but a symbol of hope and pride—a rising star destined to lead a new era for Burkina Faso.
As the U17 AFCON continues and the world watches closely, one thing is certain: Ashraf Loukman Tapsoba’s story is only just beginning.
