Olympique Lyonnais defender Mohamed Ouédraogo is set to miss several months after suffering a cruciate ligament injury to his knee.

The 23-year-old Burkina Faso international sustained the injury during training and now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Ouédraogo joined Lyon from Sparta Prague during the summer transfer window but has found regular first-team opportunities difficult to come by since his arrival.

He has made just four appearances in all competitions, starting two of those matches.

Competition for places at Lyon

Ouédraogo has faced competition from Abner and Nicolas Tagliafico for the left-back position, limiting his opportunities in the Lyon first team.

Despite his limited playing time, his arrival provided important squad depth for the French club, particularly with Lyon competing in the UEFA Europa League this season.

His injury will now further reduce the options available to the club as the campaign progresses.

Burkina Faso international suffers setback

Ouédraogo joined up with the Burkina Faso national team during the current international break but did not feature in either of the team’s matches.

He has since suffered the cruciate ligament injury, which is expected to keep him out for several months.

It remains unclear whether the defender will recover in time to return before the end of the season.

The injury is a major setback for Ouédraogo as he looks to establish himself at Lyon and strengthen his position with the Burkina Faso national team.
