Hervé Koffi calls for fresh start ahead of Burkina Faso Friendlies
Burkina Faso goalkeeper Hervé Koffi has urged his team to turn the page on the last Africa Cup of Nations as the Stallions prepare for upcoming home friendlies against Guinea-Bissau.
Speaking at the first training session ahead of the matches, Koffi acknowledged the disappointment of the previous tournament but emphasized the need to rebuild momentum and start fresh under coach Amir Abdou.
“First, I wanted to congratulate coach Amir Abdou on leading the national team. We went through some unpleasant moments during the last Africa Cup of Nations. We’ll try to move on quickly,” Koffi said.
The goalkeeper believes that the current squad and the opportunity to play at home provide the perfect setting for a collective rebound. Friendly matches in Ouagadougou, he noted, are a rare chance to reconnect with supporters and regain confidence.
“This selection comes at a good time. We’re trying to get back home to play two friendly matches. It’s been a long time since we played friendlies at home,” Koffi added.
For the Stallions, these matches represent an opportunity to restore team morale and consolidate a fresh approach, following an AFCON campaign that fell short of expectations. Koffi stressed the importance of achieving positive results to build momentum for the future.
“I hope at least that we can achieve good results so that we can quickly forget what happened in Morocco,” he said.
Burkina Faso are set to face Guinea-Bissau twice, on 28 and 31 March, in Ouagadougou. The team will look to capitalize on home advantage as they aim to rebuild confidence and strengthen their squad for upcoming competitions.
