The Burkina Faso Football Federation (BFFF) announced on Sunday its decision not to renew the contract of the French head coach of the national team, Hubert Velud, following their early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.
In a statement, the federation expressed gratitude to Hubert Velud and the entire coaching staff while confirming that the executive committee had decided not to renew the contract of the national coach and the entire management.
The same source indicated that the evaluation showed that the results “did not meet the expectations of the Burkinabe people” after the “Stallions” were eliminated from the continental tournament in the round of 16 against Mali with a score of 1-2.
The local football union insisted that “the management of the Stallions observed during the Africa Cup of Nations does not align with the ambitions of the executive committee” and that they will appoint a competent coaching staff as soon as possible, with “inevitable goals for success” in mind, including the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Velud (64 years old) replaced national coach Camo Malo in April 2022, signing a two-year contract.
Velud has experience in African football, having previously coached the national teams of Togo and Sudan, and winning the CAF Confederation Cup in 2016 with Congolese club TP Mazembe.
The Burkina Faso national team, which hosted the continental tournament in 1998, lost to Nigeria 0-1 in the final in 2013 and reached the semi-finals four times.
