Burkina Faso claim UFOA-B U20 crown after emphatic Nigeria final victory

Burkina Faso won the 2026 UFOA-B U20 tournament after beating Nigeria 4-1 in the final at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro on Sunday.

The result confirms Burkina Faso as regional champions and secures their qualification for the CAN U20 2027, which is scheduled to take place in Ghana.

The Etalons U20 took control of the final before half-time, building a three-goal lead through Alassana Bagayogo, Loukman Tapsoba and Issouf Dabo.

Nigeria faced a difficult task at the interval after falling 3-0 behind, but they found a way back into the contest early in the second half. A penalty in the 52nd minute reduced the deficit and briefly raised the possibility of a dramatic recovery.

Burkina Faso, however, withstood the pressure and restored their control of the match. They eventually put the outcome beyond doubt in added time when Fadil Adama Barro scored the fourth goal.

The 4-1 victory completed Burkina Faso’s successful campaign with the regional title and a place at the 2027 CAN U20 in Ghana. Nigeria were left to settle for second place after being unable to build on their penalty.

Burkina Faso’s decisive first-half performance proved to be the foundation of their triumph. Bagayogo, Tapsoba and Dabo gave the side a commanding advantage before the break, leaving Nigeria needing to produce a major turnaround after half-time.

The Nigerian response came seven minutes after the restart, when the penalty brought the score to 3-1. That goal offered a brief change in momentum and gave the final renewed suspense, but Burkina Faso remained ahead throughout.

Barro’s late strike ensured there would be no final twist. The fourth goal also provided a fitting conclusion to a tournament in which the Etalons U20 finished on a perfect note.

With their victory in Yamoussoukro, Burkina Faso leave the UFOA-B U20 2026 tournament as champions and move on to the next stage of the continental calendar. Their success means Ghana will host them at the CAN U20 2027, while the heavy final defeat ended Nigeria’s hopes of taking the regional title.
