Burkina Faso begins construction of new Hotel du sportif complex in Ouaga 2000

Burkina Faso has begun work on a major new sports accommodation and training complex after the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Hotel du sportif in Ouaga 2000 on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.

The facility is being built on the site of the former COMET and is intended to improve the preparation, accommodation and recovery conditions available to the country’s national teams.

The main building will be an R+5 structure containing 57 double suites, including accommodation intended for the Etalons A. A second building will provide 300 standard rooms for other national-team categories.

The complex will also include medical and paramedical facilities, dining areas, multipurpose rooms and administrative offices. Plans feature changing rooms, a 220-seat multisport venue, a VAR room, a gymnasium and a range of technical spaces.

Sporting infrastructure forms a central part of the development. The site is expected to house FIFA-approved natural and artificial-grass football pitches, along with a dedicated football stand.

There will also be tennis courts and an aquatic complex comprising an Olympic-size pool, whirlpool pools and relaxation areas. The wider site is planned to include car parks, security booths, external shops and associated roads and utility networks.

The overall cost of the project is estimated at 25,211,763,675 FCFA excluding VAT. Construction is scheduled to take 15 months.

The authorities aim to create a modern complex meeting international standards, giving Burkina Faso’s national selections access to improved facilities for their stays, training programmes and recovery.

The foundation-stone ceremony marks the formal start of the project, but the next challenge will be delivering it according to the announced timetable while meeting the required technical standards and maintaining the quality of the work.

Completion within the 15-month deadline would allow the authorities to turn the project’s objectives into a functioning base for the national teams and provide a lasting addition to Burkina Faso’s sports infrastructure.
