African Stars teenager Micah Davids set for Orlando Pirates test

African Stars teenager Micah Davids is preparing for his first senior-team trip as the Namibian champions face Orlando Pirates in the CAF Champions League.

The 15-year-old is part of the squad travelling for the second preliminary-round tie against the South African club, with the first leg scheduled for Saturday, October 17.

The match will be played at the Botswana National Stadium in Gaborone, with kick-off at 15:00.

Davids said he was grateful to be included in the squad and described the opportunity as a major milestone for both himself and his family.

“When I found out I was travelling with the team for the first time, I was very grateful for the opportunity to be able to travel with the team,” Davids told African Stars’ media team.

“It’s obviously a very big achievement for myself and for my family as well, to be able to play in the Champions League.

“It’s not something that every kid is able to do. I’m just very grateful and very ecstatic and excited.”

African Stars aim for group-stage place

Davids’ inclusion represents an important moment in his early career, but the teenager also has his focus on helping African Stars overcome a strong Orlando Pirates side.

The Buccaneers won the Champions League title in 1995 and will provide a significant challenge as both clubs compete for progress to the group stage.

Despite the stature of their opponents, Davids believes African Stars are putting in the necessary work to give themselves a chance of advancing.

“We’re doing our best to ensure that we can win against Orlando Pirates and make it through to the group stage,” he added.
