Bryan Mbeumo has officially joined Manchester United, sealing a transfer that makes him the most expensive Cameroonian footballer in history.
The 25-year-old winger, who turns 26 on August 7, signed a long-term contract with the Premier League giants after a standout campaign with Brentford, where he registered 20 goals and 9 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.
“Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Bryan Mbeumo has joined the club, subject to registration. The Cameroonian international has signed a contract until June 2030, with an option for a further year,” the club announced on 21 July.
According to multiple reliable sources, the transfer was completed for €80 million including bonuses, slightly below the initial reports of €81 million.
This deal sees Mbeumo leapfrog compatriot André Onana in the list of Cameroon’s most expensive players and places him alongside Ivorian forward Nicolas Pépé among Africa’s priciest transfers.
Mbeumo, who has 22 caps and 6 goals for Cameroon, will now share the dressing room at Old Trafford with Onana, who previously held the national transfer record following his €50 million move from Inter Milan to United in 2023.
Carlos Baleba, who joined Brighton from Lille in 2023 for €27 million, rounds out the top three, tied with legendary striker Samuel Eto’o, whose transfers from Mallorca to Barcelona in 2004 and later from Inter Milan to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala in 2011 both matched that figure.
Eto’o features prominently on the list, with a total of three appearances.
The 2009 deal that took him from Barcelona to Inter Milan for €20 million ranks seventh overall.
Midfield powerhouse André-Frank Zambo Anguissa appears twice: once for his €25 million switch from Marseille to Fulham in 2018, and again for his €16 million move from Fulham to Napoli in 2022.
Also included in the top 10 are Alexandre Song’s €19 million transfer from Barcelona to Arsenal in 2012 and Karl Toko-Ekambi’s €18 million move from Angers to Villarreal in 2018.
