Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of teenage goalkeeper Michael Dike from Irish side Treaty United.
Dike, 18, who is of Nigerian descent, has signed an initial two-year contract with the Seagulls.
The move marks a major step in the young shot-stopper’s development, as he now joins one of England’s most ambitious top-flight clubs with a reputation for nurturing youth talent.
Brighton’s U21 head coach Shannon Ruth expressed confidence in the new recruit’s potential.
“Michael joins us as an Irish youth international and gained some good experience last year with Treaty,” Ruth told the club’s official website.
“We believe he is a goalkeeper with a really positive profile and a lot of potential. We look forward to working with him and helping him continue his development.”
Dike made his debut for the Republic of Ireland’s U19 team in March, highlighting his growing stature on the international stage.
His time at Treaty United saw him gain valuable first-team experience, which Brighton believe will be key in easing his transition into the English game.
While he is expected to initially link up with Brighton’s U21 side, Dike will be monitored closely by the club’s technical team as they assess his progress over the course of the contract.
His signing is part of Brighton’s broader recruitment strategy, which focuses on identifying and developing young talent with long-term potential.
Dike becomes the latest in a growing list of young prospects snapped up by Brighton as they continue to build for the future.
