Zadok Yohanna on the radar on Brighton

Brighton and Hove Albion have moved decisively to secure one of Europe’s emerging wide talents, confirming the signing of Zadok Yohanna from AIK Stockholm on a long-term five-year contract.

The 18-year-old right winger successfully underwent his medical on Saturday, finalising the framework of a deal worth £21.5million.

The transfer will officially be completed once the summer window opens on June 15, marking another calculated investment in youth by the Premier League side as they continue to build for the future under their evolving recruitment model.

Yohanna arrives in England after a rapid rise through Swedish football, having only recently broken into senior competition. Despite his limited experience, he has already shown significant promise in attacking areas, drawing attention from several top European scouts.

Newcastle interest and rising reputation

The winger’s development had not gone unnoticed in England, with reports indicating that Newcastle United had explored the possibility of a move earlier in the year.

Their interest reportedly came in the aftermath of their high-profile sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona in a deal worth up to €80million (£69.3m; $93.2m).

Yohanna’s output this season has underlined why he has become such a sought-after prospect. He has registered two goals and three assists in ten appearances in the 2026 campaign, with AIK Stockholm sitting tenth in the standings.

Even before his breakthrough year, he had already featured in six Allsvenskan matches in 2025 and impressed in the Swedish Cup, where he scored three times despite limited senior exposure.

Hurzeler outlines plans for young winger

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler offered an early assessment of his newest addition, highlighting both the player’s raw talent and the need for gradual development within the Premier League environment.

“I’m looking forward to working with Zadok,” Hurzeler said in Saturday’s release. “Having seen his games and his attributes, he is a player that can impact games in the final third.

“He’s still young, and will need time to adapt to the club and Premier League, but he is an exciting player to watch and he brings the kind of creativity we know our fans will enjoy.

“He’s dynamic, has pace and likes to take players on. His attributes and ability will be a real addition to our attacking options.”

The comments reflect Brighton’s long-standing strategy of integrating young, high-ceiling players into a structured system designed to accelerate development while maintaining competitive balance in the top flight.

Brighton’s evolving recruitment structure

The deal also comes at a time of subtle transition behind the scenes at Brighton. The club have been active in shaping their recruitment direction, with former sporting director Jason Ayto departing after a short nine-month spell and Mike Cave stepping in to take over responsibilities.

Alongside Yohanna’s arrival, Brighton have also been monitoring Olympiacos right-back Costinha, a 26-year-old Portuguese defender valued at around £11million, as they continue to explore targeted additions across the squad.

The club’s approach suggests a blend of elite youth investment and experienced depth-building as they prepare for another demanding Premier League campaign.
