Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler has expressed strong confidence that midfielder Carlos Baleba will remain at the club despite mounting transfer interest from Manchester United.
The Cameroon international has emerged as a top target for United during the final stretch of the summer transfer window, but Brighton are said to be unwilling to part ways with him for anything less than £120 million.
The club’s firm stance reflects Baleba’s growing importance to the Seagulls’ midfield and their determination to keep him as they prepare for the new season.
Speaking ahead of Brighton’s Premier League opener against Fulham, Hurzeler confirmed that the 20-year-old remains fully involved in preparations and available for selection.
“I didn’t see any change, he’s only changed his hair. I think that’s the change he’s made in the last two weeks,” the German coach said.
“But overall he seems to be in a really good place, he’s enjoying it with his team-mates, he’s enjoying being a Brighton player. I didn’t see any big changes and he’s an option to start tomorrow.”
When pressed on the likelihood of retaining Baleba beyond the transfer deadline, Hurzeler was emphatic: “Very very very confident, that’s just my belief.”
Baleba, who joined Brighton from Lille in 2023, has quickly established himself as a dynamic presence in midfield with his ball-winning ability, composure, and athleticism.
His performances have caught the attention of top clubs, but Brighton’s hierarchy is determined to fend off interest and build their squad around young, high-potential talents.
Brighton will kick off their campaign at home against Fulham, with Hurzeler set to take charge of his first competitive match since replacing Roberto De Zerbi in the dugout.
