Brentford are set to complete the permanent signing of Nigerian international Michael Kayode from Fiorentina, following a successful loan spell that began in January.
The 19-year-old right-back joined the Premier League side on an initial loan until the end of the 2024/25 season, with the agreement including an option for a full transfer.
According to a report from Italian outlet TMW, the London-based club has decided to trigger the purchase clause after being impressed by Kayode’s performances and adaptation to English football.
Brentford have reportedly notified Fiorentina of their intention to finalise the deal, with an official announcement expected within the week.
Although Kayode made limited appearances with the senior team, he impressed the club’s technical staff with his work ethic and professionalism during training, as well as in his outings with Brentford’s Under-23 squad.
His smooth integration into the squad and positive relationship with his teammates and coaching staff are said to have influenced the club’s decision.
In late April, Andrea Ritorni, head scout of Vigo Global Sport—the agency representing Kayode—commented on the defender’s experience at Brentford.
“He is very happy to play in English football, he gets along very well with his teammates and the coach,” Ritorni said.
“He also played a couple of games with the club’s Under 23s where he did really well. Changing clubs, environments, cultures is not easy and a few weeks of adjustment were also needed to get back into the right rhythm of play.”
Kayode, who rose through Fiorentina’s youth ranks and earned a senior international debut for Nigeria in 2023, is now poised to make a permanent switch to the Premier League as he continues his development in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.
