The Mauritanian Football Federation (FFRIM) sadly announces the withdrawal of midfielder Abdallahi Mahmoud from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to a confirmed double fracture in his left arm.
The injury occurred during the Mourabitounes friendly match against their Tunisian counterpart on Saturday evening. The match ended a goalless stalemate at the Stade Hammadi Agrebi in Radès, Tunis.
FFRIM President Ahmed Yahya swiftly reached out to Mahmoud, extending support and encouragement during this challenging time.
Yahya emphasized the importance of courage and patience for Mahmoud’s recovery, urging him to return swiftly to the national team.
Currently hospitalized, Mahmoud is set to undergo surgery under the Federation’s supervision.
The president’s direct contact with the player reflects the federation’s commitment to supporting its members through adversity.
As Mahmoud embarks on the path to recovery, the FFRIM remains steadfast in its dedication to facilitating his return to the team.
Notably, a player included in the final squad can only be replaced in the event of a severe injury, and this replacement must be executed no later than 24 hours before the team’s first match.
Mahmoud is currently on loan at Swiss club AC Bellinzona from Spanish Primera Liga side Deportivo Alaves.
