Vinícius Júnior commits future to Real Madrid with record-breaking contract

Vinicius Junior’s startling dip in performance has become one of the main talking points surrounding Real Madrid’s attacking line-up, with new manager Xabi Alonso now tasked with restoring the Brazilian’s spark.

The 24-year-old, who has Cameroonian heritage through his paternal lineage, has endured a difficult spell since finishing runner-up to Manchester City’s Rodri in the Ballon d’Or race.

Once lauded as the most dangerous winger in Europe, Vinicius now finds himself grappling with inconsistency, fitness issues, and suspensions—all contributing to a steep decline in form.

The numbers paint a grim picture. Vinicius has not scored a goal since April, when he found the net in Real Madrid’s 2-1 Champions League loss to Arsenal.

Worse still, he has failed to score in any of Madrid’s victories since March 9.

Over the course of 33 matches in 2024—totaling 2,611 minutes—he has recorded just seven goals and seven assists.

Additionally, he has not won a single penalty since January, an uncharacteristic drought for a player known for his explosive runs and ability to draw fouls.
