In a lively event at the Yaoundé sports palace, Cameroon’s national football team coach, Volker Finke, announced the preparation program for the Indomitable Lions ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Portugal and Germany are the first confirmed opponents, with a match against Portugal scheduled for March 5, 2014, and one against Germany on June 1, 2014. Negotiations are underway for two more matches against a Latin American team and a Central European selection.
Finke revealed that the choice of opponents is based on the teams Cameroon will face in the group stage of the World Cup. The preparation involves a list of 42 players, with a four-day training course for local players in February. On May 13, the coach will send the names of the first 30 players to FIFA. From May 20 to 30, 2014, the team will stay in Austria for friendly matches, including one against a nation from the former Yugoslavia. They will then move to Germany for family rest from June 2 to 4. The final list of 23 selected players will be sent to FIFA on June 2, and they will depart for their headquarters in Natal, Brazil, after a farewell training session on June 4.
