Brahim Hemdani insists Rayan Ait-Nouri’s Algeria future is his decision

Algeria manager Brahim Hemdani has insisted that the final decision on Rayan Ait-Nouri’s international future rests solely with him following the Manchester City defender’s controversial conduct during the recent international break.

The 25-year-old was involved in a disagreement with the coaching staff after being overlooked for a starting role against Zambia. Ait-Nouri had reportedly hoped to feature from the beginning, but Jaouen Hadjam was selected ahead of him.

Tensions escalated when Ait-Nouri allegedly refused to warm up after being instructed to prepare for a possible appearance from the bench. Footage of the incident circulated widely on social media, prompting further debate over his relationship with the national team.

Hemdani has sought to play down speculation surrounding the dispute, while making it clear that he will determine how the situation is resolved.

“Those who want to speculate, speculate. I won’t get into these speculations,” Hemdani said. “Everything that happens in relation to this situation will be handled amicably, and whatever we do will be my decision, you will be informed in due course.”

The controversy comes during a frustrating period for Ait-Nouri at Manchester City, where he has struggled for regular playing time under Enzo Maresca. The left-back has reportedly managed just 15 Premier League minutes and one EFL Cup appearance this season.

His international future now depends on how the situation is handled in the coming weeks.
