SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has hailed veteran striker Bradley Grobler for his decisive performance in their 1-0 win over Richards Bay last Friday at King Zwelithini Stadium.
Grobler, who came on as a substitute, scored the match-winning goal, showcasing his clinical finishing ability despite ongoing injury concerns.
Hunt acknowledged the veteran forward’s struggle with a long-standing injury sustained in August during the MTN8 quarter-final against Orlando Pirates.
Despite his physical limitations, Grobler’s experience and determination have been vital to the team.
Hunt jokingly remarked that Grobler was “playing on one leg” but emphasized that the striker’s resolve to contribute remained unwavering.
We can’t always rely on Bradley; he’s been doing it for many years,” Hunt said. “He had a big operation in August in the quarter-final against Orlando Pirates and was out for a while.
He’s been struggling in recent weeks, but I told him, ‘I’ll leave you on the bench tonight, and you’re going to come on and score the winning goal.’ And that’s exactly what happened.
Grobler, who has now surpassed 100 goals in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), continues to be a vital figure for SuperSport, despite his ongoing recovery.
His contributions remain crucial for the team as they continue to push for higher positions in the league.
However, with the arrival of former Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic, Grobler will face increased competition in the coming months.
Nurkovic, who joined SuperSport United earlier this season, will be eligible to play in January when the FIFA transfer window opens.
This adds an extra layer of excitement for the club as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
SuperSport United’s win against Richards Bay, who sit at the bottom of the table, moved them up to eighth place in the Betway Premiership standings with 12 points from 10 matches.
Hunt’s side will next host Carling Knockout Cup champions Magesi FC at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday at 8pm, aiming to continue their upward momentum in the league.
