Bradley Grobler joins Stellenbosch FC as veteran striker targets PSL scoring record

Stellenbosch FC have signed veteran striker Bradley Grobler on a free transfer, giving the 38-year-old another opportunity to move closer to Peter Shalulile’s all-time Premier Soccer League scoring record.

Grobler leaves Sekhukhune United after the conclusion of the 2025/26 season and will now link up again with Gavin Hunt, the coach he previously worked under. The forward’s arrival strengthens Stellenbosch FC’s attacking options as they prepare for the new Betway Premiership campaign.

The experienced striker has scored 129 PSL goals and is within five of Shalulile’s record total of 134. Shalulile has since moved to Tanzania, where he joined champions Young Africans, leaving Grobler with a chance to become the league’s leading scorer if he can maintain his form.

“Stellenbosch FC is delighted to announce the signing of decorated striker Bradley Grobler on a free transfer.

“Regarded as one of South Africa’s most prolific goalscorers, Grobler arrives in the Winelands with 129 PSL goals to his name and stands within touching distance of Peter Shalulile’s all-time record.

“The 38-year-old most recently turned out for the likes of Sekhukhune United and SuperSport United, and notably won the PSL Golden Boot award with the latter during the 2020-21 season.

“He has now reunited with his former Matsatsantsa coach Gavin Hunt in Stellenbosch, where he is hoping to enjoy a successful campaign with the Maroons,” the club announced.

Grobler’s most recent spell was with Sekhukhune United, but he departed after Eric Tinkler left the club at the end of last season. New head coach Cedric Kaze subsequently began reshaping the squad, with Grobler among a group of 12 players who were released.

The move to Stellenbosch represents a reunion with Hunt, who previously coached Grobler at a club whose status was later sold and which was renamed Siwelele FC. The pair last worked together there a couple of seasons ago.

Grobler spent his most notable recent period with SuperSport United, where he won the PSL Golden Boot during the 2020-21 season. His record of 129 league goals underlines his status as one of South Africa’s most accomplished strikers, while his experience will be valuable to Stellenbosch FC as they compete in the Betway Premiership.

The forward’s immediate challenge will be to break Shalulile’s mark of 134 goals. With five goals required to draw level and six to move ahead, Grobler remains within realistic reach of the record despite being 38 years old.

His transfer also adds another experienced figure to Hunt’s squad. Stellenbosch FC described Grobler as a decorated striker and said he would be hoping for a successful campaign with the Maroons after reuniting with his former coach.

The move was confirmed as a free transfer, meaning Stellenbosch FC have secured the services of a proven PSL goalscorer without a transfer fee. ’s next appearance for the club will be watched closely as he begins his attempt to add to his 129 league goals and challenge Shalulile’s record.
