Boulaye Dia, the Senegalese striker for Salernitana, has broken his silence amidst conflict with his club, refuting accusations made by his coach and asserting that the club has misrepresented his actions.
The 2023-2024 season has been fraught with challenges for Dia, following an impressive debut campaign in Serie A.
However, recent developments have strained his relationship with Salernitana, leading to his removal from the squad since March 2, 2024, following allegations of refusing to play in a Serie A match against Udinese.
In an exclusive interview with L’Equipe, Dia vehemently denied the accusations leveled against him, stating, “There has been too much information, too many lies, and I want to set the record straight.
I also want to restore my image, people have the impression that I am someone who has problems. But I never had any problems. The club lied.”
Dia clarified the incident, asserting that he never refused to play. “I never refused to come on. In the 80th minute, the coach asked me to go and warm up.
I just gestured with my head, I really wasn’t thinking about going in because I hadn’t warmed up at all beforehand.”
Furthermore, Dia revealed his disappointment with how the situation unfolded, expressing frustration at the club’s handling of the matter.
“They wanted to blame me, and now they want mediation. The new coach would like to have me back so I can help.”
Despite the turmoil, Dia remains open to resolving the issue and returning to play for Salernitana. “Of course! I am under contract, and I never wanted this situation.
It’s the club… they threw everything out in the press. I spoke to the president; I couldn’t even explain myself.”
As the saga unfolds, Dia’s future at Salernitana remains uncertain, but his determination to clear his name and resume playing reflects his commitment to the sport and his desire to contribute positively to his team.
