Badredine Bouanani’s early promise with the Algerian national team has yet to translate into sustained success, as the young winger struggles to find consistency at both international and club level.

At just 18, Bouanani made the bold decision to represent Algeria after featuring for France’s youth teams, positioning himself as one of the brightest prospects of his generation.

Trained in France, his technical ability, vision, and creativity drew comparisons to Riyad Mahrez, suggesting he could one day become a decisive figure for the Fennecs.

Yet Bouanani’s international career has stalled. Under former coach Djamel Belmadi, he saw limited playing time, and the situation has not improved under Vladimir Petković.

The 21-year-old now finds himself on the sidelines, struggling to secure a regular role despite his potential.

His club situation mirrors this pattern. At Stuttgart, Bouanani has featured sparingly in the Bundesliga, making only 12 appearances—five starts—across 27 matchdays, without registering a goal or assist.

In the Europa League, he has scored twice in ten matches, but overall his contributions remain below expectations for a player of his talent.

Competition for attacking positions further complicates matters. Players like Anis Hadj Moussa are currently favoured, raising questions about whether Bouanani’s challenges stem from adaptation issues, tactical decisions, or inconsistent player management.

Despite his potential, he has yet to enjoy the consistent run of matches necessary to fully demonstrate his abilities.

At 21, Bouanani’s future is far from settled. Experts and fans alike acknowledge that talent alone is insufficient; what he needs now is regular playing time and stability at both club and international level to unlock his true potential.

His career trajectory remains a story still in the making, with the opportunity to transform early promise into lasting impact.
