Botswana coach Morena Ramoreboli has issued a warning to Algeria ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, set to take place on 21 March in Francistown.
With Botswana sitting third in Group G, three points behind Algeria, the Zebras are determined to cause an upset and challenge the group leaders.
Ramoreboli acknowledged the strength of Algeria but expressed confidence in his team’s ability to compete.
“It is a tough, fast and well-organised team, which knows how to exploit spaces and create danger in the corridors, “We know it will be difficult, but we have our assets. We will prepare seriously to obtain a positive result.”
Algeria, boasting attacking talents such as Riyad Mahrez and Amine Gouiri, are favourites for the encounter. H
owever, Botswana are aiming to leverage home advantage at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium, despite the challenging afternoon heat.
“Some people think that the heat is an advantage for us, but the Algerians are experienced and know how to manage these types of conditions,” added Ramoreboli.
While Botswana’s primary target remains qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, the coach highlighted the importance of the World Cup qualifiers in enhancing the team’s FIFA ranking.
“We want to progress and improve our FIFA ranking. To do that, we have to beat teams like Algeria,” he stated.
Following the Algeria clash, Botswana will face Somalia on 25 March in another pivotal fixture as they strive to boost their qualification hopes.
With preparations underway, Botswana are determined to defy expectations and pose a serious challenge to the Fennecs in Francistown.
