Botola Pro 1: Wydad ultras boycott FUS Rabat clash over high ticket prices
The “Winners 2005” ultras group, supporters of Wydad Athletic Club, have announced a boycott of their team’s upcoming fixture against FUS Rabat, citing concerns over ticket pricing and restrictions on away supporters.
The match, scheduled for Friday evening at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium, forms part of a postponed Matchday 10 fixture in the Botola Pro.
In an official statement, the ultras group strongly criticised what they described as a return to “repressive measures” targeting fans. They argued that although the term “away fan ban” is no longer explicitly used, limiting visiting supporters to just five per cent of stadium capacity effectively produces the same outcome.
The group also raised concerns about how attendance is being managed in Rabat, claiming that such decisions extend beyond the control of the clubs and are instead dictated by local authorities. According to them, these measures make it increasingly difficult for supporters to access stadiums, despite the city having recently hosted large numbers of fans during national team matches.
Ticket pricing emerged as another major point of contention. “Winners 2005” criticised what they see as rising costs that fail to reflect the financial realities of ordinary supporters, warning that the growing commercialisation of football risks alienating its traditional fan base.
They further revealed that their inability to secure tickets after online sales opened played a decisive role in their decision to boycott the match.
Despite taking this stance, the group called on Wydad’s players to deliver a strong performance and secure victory, particularly following their recent continental disappointment, as the team continues its push for the top position in the league standings.
