Botola Pro 1: Raja Athletic Club coach Fadlu Davids demands more from players after win against Olympique Safi

Head coach Fadlu Davids has urged his players to raise their level in the second half of the season, even after Raja Athletic Club secured a 2–0 victory over Olympique Safi in the Botola Pro.

Speaking after the match, Davids acknowledged the importance of the result but expressed concern about the team’s overall points tally at the halfway stage of the campaign, stressing that more consistency will be required if Raja are to secure the league title.

“It would have been better to score the second goal earlier,” Davids said. “We were superior to the opponent, but we must play our possession style for the full 90 minutes. Right now, we only manage it in short spells.”

The coach emphasised the need for the team to control games more effectively, particularly when facing opponents who defend deep and look to attack on the counter.

“We need to be smoother in our play, control matches when rivals sit back, and avoid giving them chances on the counter. In the return phase, we must improve and, of course, increase our points. Thirty points at the halfway mark is not enough. To win the title, we’ll need 38 or 39 points in the next 15 games.”

Davids also highlighted the positive condition of the squad, noting that the return of several players has strengthened the team physically as they prepare for the decisive part of the season.

“The good thing is all our players are back and physically ready. With better performances and more points, we can reach our goal.”

He also praised the supporters for their unwavering backing throughout the match.

“From the first minute to the last, they supported us. If we improve and play the football we want, with their backing, nothing can stop us.”

Defender Badr Banoun echoed the coach’s assessment, admitting that the team expected to collect more points earlier in the season.

“We wanted more points than we have now,” he said. “We dropped points in matches where we were better, like against CODM Meknès and Ittihad Yakoub Mansour. But recently we recovered some, with wins in Agadir, against Safi, and against Ittihad Tanger.”

With the second half of the Botola Pro season approaching, Raja Athletic Club will be aiming to build on their recent results as they continue their push for the league title.
