Botola Pro 1: Hussein Ammouta emerges as leading candidate to replace Benhachem at Wydad

Wydad AC are reportedly weighing up a managerial change as the club considers parting ways with head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem during the current period.

According to Radio Mars, the Casablanca-based club has started reviewing several coaching profiles as it looks for a potential successor should the decision be taken to move on from Benhachem.

Among the names being discussed, former Wydad boss Hussein Ammouta has emerged as the most prominent candidate to take over the role. Ammouta previously enjoyed a successful spell with the Moroccan giants, guiding the team to victory in the CAF Champions League.

The experienced coach has also gained recognition for his work on the international stage. During his time with the Jordan national football team, he led the side to an impressive run in the AFC Asian Cup, where the team finished as runners-up in the 2023 edition of the tournament.

Ammouta was recently linked with the coaching position of the Kuwait national football team, but negotiations reportedly collapsed due to financial disagreements.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the coaching position, Wydad remain competitive in the Botola Pro standings. The club currently sits in second place with 29 points from 12 matches, trailing rivals Raja CA by a single point, although Raja have played three more games.
