Borussia Dortmund set €20 million asking price for defender Ramy Bensebaini

Borussia Dortmund has placed a €20 million valuation on Algerian international Ramy Bensebaini, signalling the fee interested clubs must meet to secure the defender’s services during the upcoming transfer window.

The 30-year-old left-back, who joined the Bundesliga side in 2023, remains under contract, but Dortmund are reportedly open to letting him go should an appropriate offer arrive.

German outlet Bild reports that despite Bensebaini’s regular presence in the squad this season, the club could be persuaded to part ways for the right price.

Bensebaini has featured in 43 matches across all competitions during the current campaign, though his performances have drawn mixed reviews.

While his defensive stability and experience have been assets, inconsistencies have sparked debate over his long-term place in the team.

Interest in the former Borussia Mönchengladbach and Stade Rennais player is growing, with French club Olympique de Marseille reportedly monitoring the situation closely.

Marseille, who are expected to be active in the summer market, view Bensebaini as a seasoned addition to their back line.

However, there is scepticism surrounding Dortmund’s valuation, particularly given the player’s age and fluctuating form.

Bensebaini, a key figure in Algeria’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, brings with him a wealth of top-flight experience, both in domestic and European competition.

Since making the move from Mönchengladbach, he has remained a fixture in Dortmund’s matchday squad, though not always in a guaranteed starting role.

Under the guidance of Niko Kovač, the defender has shown flashes of his ability, but questions remain about whether he can consistently deliver at the highest level.

Some pundits argue that Dortmund’s €20 million demand may not reflect the current market value for a player of his profile and age.

Nonetheless, Dortmund appear to be holding firm on their price, indicating they are in no rush to offload the player.

The club’s stance suggests a willingness to keep Bensebaini unless a bid arrives that meets their valuation, allowing them to recoup a significant portion of their investment.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Bensebaini’s future remains uncertain. Clubs in need of defensive reinforcements are likely to weigh Dortmund’s asking price against other available options.

With Marseille among the interested parties, the coming weeks could see negotiations intensify, especially if Dortmund receive formal approaches.

For now, Bensebaini remains a Dortmund player, but as transfer talks begin to heat up across Europe, the veteran defender could be one of the more experienced names on the move—provided suitors are willing to match Dortmund’s demands.
