Kevin-Prince Boateng has once again spoken out against racism in football, reflecting on the incident that led to his departure from AC Milan for Schalke 04. The Ghanaian midfielder, who walked off the pitch during a friendly match in 2013 after being racially abused, expressed his continued frustration and disbelief that racism still persists in modern football and society.
“We live in multicultural societies, with people from all over who have close relationships. So I still don’t understand why there are still such problems with racism. How is it possible that we are still here? It’s a question I can’t get out of my head,” Boateng told Sky Sports.
His emotional reflection highlights the enduring pain caused by discrimination and the lack of progress in eradicating racism from the game. Boateng has since become one of football’s most vocal advocates for anti-racism, using his platform to call for stronger action and accountability.
Despite his efforts and those of others, his words remind us that much work remains to be done—both within football and beyond—to ensure respect, equality, and dignity for all.
