Ghana’s Black Maidens are concluding their preparations for the inaugural WAFU Zone B U-17 Girls Cup, which begins on Thursday, December 12, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Head coach Joe Nana Adarkwa has been leading rigorous training sessions to fine-tune the team’s tactics and strategies, aiming for a strong performance as tournament hosts.
Adarkwa on Monday announced his final 20-player squad, which includes Christiana Ashiaku, a standout midfielder from Rootz Sistaz.
Ashiaku’s selection comes as no surprise, following her exceptional showing at the CAF Schools Championship in Niger, where she emerged as both the top scorer and best player.
Her inclusion is seen as a significant boost to the Black Maidens’ hopes of securing a strong finish in the competition.
The team’s preparations have been bolstered by an unbeaten run in their pre-tournament warm-up matches.
They recorded victories over Rootz Sistaz, FC Epiphany Warriors, and Sissamba Ladies, showcasing their readiness for the challenges ahead.
Final training sessions are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, giving the squad the opportunity to address any last-minute adjustments before the competition kicks off.
Coach Adarkwa expressed confidence in his team’s abilities, stating, “The girls have been working tirelessly, and the progress we’ve seen in training and friendly matches is very encouraging.
We’re ready to give our best and make Ghana proud.
The Black Maidens will carry the weight of expectations as hosts, with fans hopeful for a successful outing in this historic edition of the tournament.
The competition marks an important step in promoting women’s football in the region, offering young talents a platform to shine on an international stage.
With a blend of talent and determination, the Black Maidens aim to leave an indelible mark on the maiden WAFU Zone B U-17 Girls Cup, setting the tone for future successes.
