Betis assess Kevin Denkey deal as salary gap remains unresolved

Real Betis are pursuing an interest in FC Cincinnati forward Kevin Denkey, but negotiations with the Togo international’s representatives are currently being held up by his wage demands.

According to information from Sacha Tavolieri, the Andalusian club regard the 25-year-old as a serious option to strengthen their attack. Discussions have begun with Denkey’s entourage as Betis attempt to reach agreement over his personal terms.

The club’s interest is regarded as genuine, but salary is proving to be the main obstacle so far. Betis officials are trying to find common ground with the striker and his representatives, with his financial expectations currently preventing the talks from moving forward.

Denkey remains under contract with FC Cincinnati until June 2028, leaving the Major League Soccer club in a strong contractual position. His market value is estimated at €12m by Transfermarkt, a figure that could also influence any negotiations between Betis and the American club if the Spanish side decide to pursue the transfer formally.

Betis are not the only club monitoring the Togo international. Borussia Dortmund are also following Denkey’s situation, as reported exclusively by Africafoot. That interest could add to the competition for his signature, particularly if discussions with Betis begin to make progress.

The forward’s contract, his reported valuation and the attention from two prominent European clubs mean Denkey’s future is likely to remain a significant transfer-market story in the coming weeks. With Betis attempting to resolve the issue over personal terms and Dortmund also keeping track of developments, the next stage will depend in part on whether the Spanish club can bridge the gap over wages.

Denkey, 25, continues to attract attention after establishing himself as an option for clubs looking to reinforce their attack. His situation combines a long-term agreement with FC Cincinnati and growing interest from Europe, while no agreement with Real Betis has yet been reached.

Real Betis are due to play their second league match of the season against Real Sociedad soon. The betting company 1xbet lists odds of 2.05 for a Real Betis win, 3.10 for a draw and 3.25 for a Real Sociedad victory.
