Paul Onuachu has emerged as a top transfer target for Turkish giants Besiktas, with the club reportedly adding the Nigerian striker to their shortlist ahead of the summer window.
The 30-year-old forward, who is currently under contract at English side Southampton, is expected to be on the move at the end of the season.
Despite featuring in 26 matches this campaign — including 11 starts — Onuachu has struggled to cement a regular place in the starting lineup.
He has registered four goals and one assist so far, and with limited game time, his future at the club appears increasingly uncertain.
While Onuachu continues to fulfil his commitments at Southampton, where his contract runs until June 2026, there is growing interest in his services from multiple Turkish clubs.
According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Besiktas are particularly keen on securing his signature and view the Nigerian international as a high-priority acquisition.
The Istanbul-based club is reportedly confident it can present a stronger financial package than its domestic rivals and satisfy the player’s salary demands.
Trabzonspor, Onuachu’s former club in the Turkish Super Lig, is also believed to be working behind the scenes in an attempt to bring him back.
Sources suggest the striker is open to rejoining his old side, although no formal offer has been submitted so far.
“Paul Onuachu isn’t against the idea of returning to his former club,” reported the Turkish press, underlining the potential tug-of-war between Trabzonspor and Besiktas for the player’s services.
With his market value estimated at €8 million and just over a year remaining on his Southampton contract, Onuachu represents a realistic option for both clubs hoping to reinforce their attacking lines for the 2025-2026 season.
His previous spell in Türkiye left a positive impression, and a return to familiar territory may provide the consistent playing time he currently lacks in England.
The coming weeks are expected to be decisive as Besiktas prepare to act swiftly in the transfer market.
Whether Onuachu opts for a return to Trabzonspor or embraces a new challenge with Besiktas, one thing is clear — the Super Lig could soon welcome back a powerful forward with unfinished business.
