Former Aston Villa attacker Bertrand Traore has expressed admiration for the progress of his former club under the management of Unai Emery. Traore, now with Villarreal, left Aston Villa during the winter transfer window to secure regular playing time in Spain.
In a recent interview with Ajax’s official website, Traore offered his insights on both Aston Villa and Ajax as the two teams prepare to face each other in the Europa League.
“I was there for the pre-season and saw how the team has developed. They have world-class players and one of the best managers in the world, I think,” Traore remarked, acknowledging the positive changes at Aston Villa.
Describing Aston Villa as a “great, passionate club with incredible supporters” and highlighting their rich history, Traore added, “They have an incredible history, and now they’re back on the European stage where they belong.”
Speaking about the upcoming clash between Aston Villa and Ajax, Traore acknowledged Villa’s strengths but expressed confidence in Ajax’s abilities. “They’re well-organized with a lot of individual quality. But Ajax is a great club,” he stated.
While recognizing that Villa is not currently in contention for the league title, Traore believes that teams can rise above expectations in European competitions.
He anticipates a “fantastic match” and expressed his intention to watch it, even though he is not registered to play for Villarreal in the fixture.
“Villarreal plays at 9 pm, but I am not registered. I will definitely try to watch the game before that. May the best team win,” Traore concluded, demonstrating sportsmanship and excitement for the upcoming encounter between two formidable teams.
