Benjamin Kimpioka: Swedish left winger linked with Portugal move to Tondela

Benjamin Kimpioka has completed a move from Sivasspor to CD Tondela, with the Swedish–DR Congolese winger joining the Portuguese club on a deal running from 2026-02-02 to 2026-06-30. The transfer is registered as a standard move, with no fee disclosed, and sees the 25-year-old swap Türkiye’s second tier for a shot at establishing himself in Liga Portugal.

Tondela secure a player currently valued at €500k, according to the latest market valuation during his spell at Sivasspor. While the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed, the deal ends Kimpioka’s stay in Turkish football less than a year after he arrived from Scottish side St. Johnstone FC. The move underlines Tondela’s strategy of targeting players with experience in multiple European leagues but still possessing potential resale value.

Kimpioka arrives in Portugal as a natural left winger who prefers to play off the flank on his right foot. Standing at 1.85m, he offers a blend of physical presence and attacking mobility in wide areas. His versatility across the attacking line has been a recurring theme in a career that has already taken him through England, Sweden, Switzerland, Scotland, and Türkiye.

Born in Knivsta and holding both Swedish and DR Congolese nationality, Kimpioka first stepped onto the broader European radar after leaving IK Sirius’ youth ranks for Sunderland’s academy. A promotion from Sunderland U18 to the senior side in 2018 marked his first professional breakthrough, followed by loan spells at Torquay United and Southend United in the English system. A permanent move to AIK in Sweden in 2022 then brought him back to Scandinavia before his career began to pivot more sharply across the continent.

From AIK, Kimpioka joined FC Luzern on loan in Switzerland in early 2023, returning to Stockholm at the end of that season before heading to St. Johnstone at the beginning of 2024. A notable rise in his market value during his time in Scotland reflected a period in which his stock climbed significantly, before he switched to Sivasspor in mid-2025. His value at Sivasspor later stabilised at €500k.

The transfer to Tondela also continues a pattern in his recent career: relatively short stints at clubs but steady exposure to different tactical environments and competitive levels. That background is likely part of Tondela’s calculation, as they bring in a winger who has navigated the English leagues, Allsvenskan, the Swiss Super League, the Scottish Premiership setup, and Türkiye’s 1. Lig.

For Kimpioka, the confirmed move opens another chapter abroad, again placing him outside his birth country and reinforcing his trajectory as a widely travelled European professional. With his contract at Tondela running to 2026-06-30, the period ahead may prove decisive: a strong spell in Liga Portugal could elevate his standing on the continental market, while a quieter stay could leave him approaching free agency with pressure to reset his career.
